Have You Found a Fossil?

Congratulations!

If you've discovered a fossil, you're about to begin an exciting journey through preservation, authentication, and ownership registration.

To start, please submit the following information:

  1. Fossil's Location: Geological layer and environmental context.
  2. GPS Coordinates: Exact location of the discovery.
  3. Photographs and Excavation Notes: Clear images and detailed notes about how and where you found the specimen.
  4. Authority Reporting: Compliance with local laws by informing the appropriate government or scientific body.

What Happens Next?

After submitting your fossil discovery, the following process takes place:

Stage 1: Legal and Ethical Compliance

Fossil laws vary by country; permits may be required for collection, transport, and export.

Some countries prohibit the sale of fossils, others regulate it strictly.

We ensure full ethical compliance, respecting indigenous land rights and scientific standards.

Recommendation: We strongly advise bringing the fossil under our jurisdiction for the best legal advice and protection.

Stage 2: Preparation and Cleaning

Careful extraction and stabilization to prevent damage.

Use of specialized tools to clean and preserve the fossil.

Application of chemical treatments when necessary to protect fragile pieces.

Stage 3: Identification and Classification

Paleontologists analyze the fossil's morphology (shape, structure).

Detailed comparison with known species in scientific fossil databases.

Use of radiometric dating, stratigraphy, or index fossils to estimate the fossil's age.

Important Note:

  1. After this point, you will not be permitted to physically handle the fossil anymore.
  2. If the fossil is deemed a valuable scientific resource, it may not be possible for you to retain private possession.
  3. However, you remain the legal owner, and we will securely hold the fossil free of charge until the completion of Stage 5.
  4. We do not charge taxes or service fees at any stage.
  5. (Be aware: other countries or institutions might impose fees if processed elsewhere.)

Stage 4: Authentication and Verification

Expert examination for signs of forgery, reconstruction, or artificial enhancement.

Non-destructive testing using X-ray, CT scanning, and spectroscopy.

DNA or isotopic analysis may be performed on relevant specimens.

Stage 5: Certification and Documentation

A Certificate of Authenticity is issued by a recognized institution (university, museum, or government body).

Documentation includes:

  1. Fossil species, age, and origin.
  2. Collector's name and excavation details.
  3. Any legal permissions for export or private ownership.
  4. Results of laboratory analyses.

Stage 6: Registration and Repository

The fossil must be registered in a global fossil database.

Important or scientifically valuable specimens are safely stored in museums or research institutions only with your permission.

For private ownership:

  1. You will need to provide chemical membership registration and security clearance documentation.

Flexibility Throughout the Process

At any stage, you can:

  1. Pause the process and wait for potential investors.
  2. Choose to sell or transfer your fossil privately.
  3. Resume legalisation and certification when you are ready.
  4. We are here to support you through every step of this unique and rewarding journey!
